Tucked away in the pretty village of Didmarton, The King’s Arms is perfectly placed for discovering the charm and beauty of the South Cotswolds. Step outside our 17th-century inn and you’ll find yourself surrounded by rolling countryside and honey-stone towns and villages in an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with stunning walks starting right from our doorstep.
Whether you’re joining us for a night in one of our boutique bedrooms, settling in by the fire with a glass of wine or heading out for a full day’s adventure, you’ll find plenty to enjoy nearby.

Local Walks
We’re lucky to be surrounded by beautiful walking and cycling routes in every direction — perfect for a range of walks, from gentle strolls to longer hikes. We offer free parking and are dog-friendly, so your four-legged friends are more than welcome to join you in the bar afterwards, where we also serve homemade food. For inspiration, Visorando has some excellent local walking routes to plan around our restaurant and bar opening times, ideal for a well-earned pint or supper stop after a walk in the glorious countryside we have on our doorstep.
Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Only a short five-minute drive from our pub, Westonbirt Arboretum is a must-visit. Created almost 200 years ago by Robert Holford, it’s home to around 15,000 specimens and 2,500 species of trees from across the globe. With 240 hectares of landscaped gardens and woodland trails, there’s something to discover in every season, from spring blossom and summer picnics to the stunning colours of autumn. The Arboretum also hosts family activities and seasonal events, making it a brilliant day out for all ages.
Highgrove Gardens
Just outside Tetbury, Highgrove is the private residence of Their Majesties The King and Queen. Since 1980, His Majesty King Charles has transformed the gardens into a celebrated showcase of sustainability and organic design. Guided tours run from April to October and must be booked in advance. A truly special experience for garden lovers.
Malmesbury and Malmesbury Abbey
Only three miles from Didmarton, Malmesbury is a historic hilltop town brimming with charm. The stunning 12th-century abbey still hosts services today, while the neighbouring Abbey House Gardens offer five acres of beautifully landscaped grounds to explore. Once thought to be England’s first capital, Malmesbury blends history, legend, and peaceful Cotswold beauty. Alongside its historic sights, the town is home to inviting tea rooms, cosy pubs and a selection of excellent restaurants, making it a perfect destination for a leisurely day out.
Tetbury

Just 12 minutes drive from us, Tetbury is a charming market town famous for its honey-stone buildings, antique shops, and cosy cafés. With its links to the royal family, including nearby Highgrove Estate and the Highgrove Shop, Tetbury blends Cotswold heritage with a welcoming atmosphere. Explore the town’s boutiques, stop for tea or a leisurely lunch or enjoy a drink in one of its traditional pubs. Tetbury is the perfect spot for a relaxed day out in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Badminton Estate and Horse Trials
The prestigious Badminton Horse Trials take place each May in the beautiful grounds of the Badminton Estate, which is only a short drive away. This world-class event combines dressage, cross-country and show jumping with food stalls, shopping and countryside atmosphere: a great day out even if you’re not a seasoned equestrian fan.
Beaufort Polo Club
A couple of miles away in Westonbirt, the Beaufort Polo Club has been at the heart of the sport since 1872. Today, it’s renowned for its summer fixtures, especially the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo each June. Blending sporting excellence with relaxed social charm, it’s an iconic Cotswold experience.
Chavenage House
Fans of period drama may recognise Chavenage House, an Elizabethan manor often used for filming. Open to visitors on selected days, it offers a fascinating glimpse into history, with family-led tours that bring the house to life.
The Barn at Chavenage is a charming spot to relax and refuel while exploring the estate.
